Our Story

The Country Cactus was born from a deep passion for teaching hands-on, creative life skills that are often overlooked in today’s fast-paced world. I grew up watching my father build a successful business from his home through talent, dedication, and an incredible work ethic. He was instrumental in shaping my childhood and inspiring my entrepreneurial spirit. For over 50 years, he built guitars for famous musicians around the world and earned a respected name in the music industry that is still well known today. Witnessing his journey firsthand gave me the confidence, motivation, and desire to open and grow a business of my own.

Over 12 years ago, I began teaching children how to sew and cook from our home kitchen in Paradise, California, while raising my three children. What started as a small, heartfelt endeavor grew into a thriving business called The Red Wagon, loved within our close-knit mountain community.

In 2020, after a devastating fire destroyed our entire town, we made the difficult decision to rebuild our lives in Arizona. Through that loss came a renewed sense of purpose. It quickly became clear there was a strong need in Verrado for a warm, welcoming space where kids and families could unplug, connect, and create together. What began as a simple dream has since grown into a community-centered studio rooted in creativity, connection, and care—offering sewing, baking, and art classes filled with heart.

Motivation for Opening in Sunrise Market
Sunrise Market in Verrado felt like the perfect fit because of its strong sense of community and family-focused atmosphere. I wanted to create a space where kids and families could gather, learn real-world skills, and build confidence—while giving parents a place they trust and feel connected to. The charm and character of the building immediately stood out to me; it felt like home, and I knew our students would feel the same.

The skills we teach—sewing, baking, crochet, painting, and other creative arts—go far beyond the activity itself. They help build confidence, creativity, patience, and independence. Our students develop problem-solving skills, learn perseverance, and take pride in creating something with their own hands. In a world that is increasingly digital, these tangible, hands-on experiences are more valuable than ever.

Age Groups Served
We offer a wide range of classes for most ages, along with a beautiful venue for birthday parties and special events. Our kids and teen classes are among our most popular, but we also offer classes for adults. We truly encourage the entire community to come and be part of the experience.

Most Popular Classes
Some of our most popular classes include sewing projects, themed baking classes, and canvas painting sessions. These are especially loved because students leave with a finished product they are proud of and excited to share. Our hands-on, step-by-step approach makes each class fun, engaging, and accessible for all skill levels.

The Country Cactus is more than just a class—it’s a place where kids, teens, adults of all ages and families build confidence, friendships, and lifelong skills. My goal is to create a space that feels like home—one that is inspiring, supportive, and fun for everyone who walks through our doors.
